Working as ONE to keep our communities informed and connected

Life has changed. However, we are more united than ever, even if now through digital channels. Our resilience is being tested but we will keep strong. COVID-19 has defined a new panorama of social interaction, as we move from face-to-face presence when doing business and building interpersonal relationships to a digital version of the same digital citizens. These difficult times have separated families, friends and colleagues from each other for the better good of society. Technology is what allows us to still be together and brings us comfort through digital interaction.
Our communities depend on us. Whether it’s to stay informed, communicate with local government entities, access online classes, interact with loved ones, or to simply help them use their free time wisely by remaining connected as they socially isolate and help flatten the curve. Hospitals, first responders, pharmacies, delivery truck drivers and grocery store employees equally rely on us to be able to act and react.
We have the TIGO men and women, engineers and technicians to thank for our connectivity in this pivotal moment in time. Their work is essential during this crisis and we must ensure that they are able to conduct it safely which is why TIGO has enacted all sanitary and hygiene measures possible to protect our workforce.
Tigo has made and will continue to make, our capabilities available to local government entities so as to support them in their efforts to inform the public and contain the virus. TIGO’s own channels have been made available to send mass communications regarding the outbreak in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Paraguay, Guatemala, Colombia, Bolivia, and Panama. This includes prevention measures, health alerts, infection information and information on measures taken by the government.
When it comes to making life easier for users in these circumstances, our operations have strengthened digital capabilities for mobile pre-paid customers to be able to recharge their data without leaving their home as well as activating a functionality so that unbanked customers can receive credit from banked ones.
Our operations have also been working on different creative initiatives to stress the importance of staying at home and practicing social distancing. Different social media campaigns across our operations use the hashtag #QuedateEnCasa (#StayHome) or #EnCasaConTigo sharing tips to stay productive while working from home as well as sharing activities to help families engage and bond during this time.
Our commitment to our communities is unwavering. During this time of social distancing, our digital highways are the only highways individuals can use to reach out to the world outside their doors. With that, pressure on the networks will increase. As individuals, we can help ensure that the networks remain available to everyone through the responsible use of data: limiting the number of devices connected at the same time, especially if not all of them are in use; taking the opportunity to bond with loved ones by watching movies or tv shows together instead of separately on different devices; using voice calls instead of internet-based calls when possible, especially for quick checkups with family and friends and so on.
We are in this together. As colleagues, friends, and loved ones. The connection among us is always important. Connectivity in a time of uncertainty is crucial and essential to our societies. Tigo is dedicated and committed to all our communities and to bring them digitally closer even as we are apart. Through connection, we can bring hope!
